Ivonne Cruz, Ph.D.

Ivonne Cruz, Ph.D., holds a Doctorate and Masters degree in the field of Sustainable Human Development and Social Public Policy from the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña. She is a resident scholar for the Center for the U.S. and Mexico at the Baker Institute, housed at Rice Univeristy. She was an associate researcher for the UNESCO Chair in Sustainability and spent some time as a visiting scholar at the Center for Sustainability and Capabilities at Cambridge University. She has been and independent consultant for over 10 years and has served in a variety of roles and organizations working mostly on environmental and social issues within academic institutions, international agencies and public sector entities. Dr. Cruz has served as international liaison and special consultant for the Environmental Defense Fund, the United Nations Environmental Program, the United Nations Industrial Program, the Global Environmental Facility, and NOAA, and the Mexican Environmental Protection agency, among others. Most recently, she was a Post-doctoral research associate at Texas A&M, conducting comparative studies within US, Cuba and Mexico and organizing international workshops on transboundary environmental policy issues in the Gulf of Mexico region. Dr. Cruz has lived in several countries, and has published several papers and book chapters on social policy issues, sustainable development strategies and has participated in the elaboration of sustainability reports for the private and public sector.
